PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

You will be responsible for ensuring the inspection, maintenance and construction of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other railway structures including buildings and other facilities. Your territory will be from Kansas City to Chicago. You will oversee a staff of an average of 12 unionized employees to ensure safety and efficiency in full compliance with standards, policies, regulations and operating rules. In addition, you will provide leadership to help ensure the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of the railway as it relates to the Structures Department.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Inspect bridges, culverts and retaining walls
Heavily involved in the development and execution of multi-year construction and maintenance plans for assigned territory
Ensure that work is carried out in a manner that complies with applicable collective bargaining agreements
Supervise and lead staff to ensure safe and effective work is performed
Follow and execute budgets for construction and maintenance projects

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Previous experience in Engineering (Engineer/Technologist) is considered an asset
Previous experience in railroad bridge construction is an asset
Must be or become a qualified bridge inspector
Effective communication skills, written/oral and understanding of computer systems
Previous experience leading a team of direct reports

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
