Major Gifts & Strategic Partnerships Manager Position Overview: This position's mission is to bring these donors to the evidence-based, innovative work of YouthLine. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about raising money to support and grow cutting-edge youth mental health services, with a strong background in building relationships and using research to secure corporate partnerships and major gifts to fund life-saving work.

Major Gifts & Strategic Partnerships Manager Job Responsibilities: National philanthropists and corporations are increasingly interested in funding projects that meet the urgent mental health needs of young people. This position's mission is to bring these donors to the evidence-based, innovative work of YouthLine.
The Major Gifts and Strategic Partnerships Manager will be responsible for securing major gifts of $5,000+ to support YouthLine's annual budget of $3 million. Major Gifts and Strategic Partnerships are a critical component of a comprehensive development strategic plan that includes grant and foundation funding, individual donors, event-driven fundraising, and government funding.
Major Gifts and Strategic Partnerships are especially important as YouthLine has shifted from being a regional crisis service to a critical part of the national fabric of mental health support for youth.
Strategic Development The Major Gifts & Strategic Partnerships Manager will be responsible for developing, along with the development team leadership, and implementing a strategy to obtain individual gifts of over $5,000 and cultivating corporate partnerships:
- Build and regularly update a portfolio of potential major gift and corporate partners, using research and relationships in the field
- Prioritize potential donors based on giving potential, alignment with YouthLine's mission, ability to reach and engage the potential donor, program priority, and alignment with the Development Strategic Plan
- Draft a plan for engagement, from initial outreach through contribution for the potential donors identified
- Regularly update the strategy to add new potential donors, adjust the priority of outreach, etc.
Donor Cultivation and Relationship Building The Major Gifts & Strategic Partnerships Manager will develop and cultivate relationships with potential partners to take them from engagement to contribute by:
- Developing an understanding of donor philanthropic objectives, approach, priorities, and values
- Engaging potential donors through appropriate means - mutual relationship, email, social media, cold call, etc.
- Cultivating relationships with potential donors through continued engagement
- Preparing and writing presentations and funding proposals, in collaboration with the Development, Communications, and YouthLine teams
- Educating potential donors about the power and impact of YouthLine
- Securing major gifts and corporate funding partnerships
- Stewarding relationships with major gift donors and corporate partners by ensuring on-going donor recognition and appreciation
Innovation and Best Practices: - The Major Gifts & Strategic Partnerships Manager will maintain skills and knowledge in fundraising best practices and stay current with fundraising innovation and technology.
- The Major Gifts & Strategic Partnerships Manager will be comfortable working with data to drive development strategies and decision-making. The manager will also be comfortable using YouthLine programming data to help potential donors understand the significant influence and proven success of the YouthLine program.
- As a member of the Development team, there may be other duties assigned by the Director of Development.
Major Gifts & Strategic Partnerships Manager Officer Position Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in marketing, Business, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- 3 - 5 years of successful major gift procurement and design and implementation of successful development strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and lead fundraising efforts independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce desired.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Commitment to donor-centered fundraising and exemplary follow-through, including strong relationship-building and negotiation skills.
- Ability to engage and inspire donors and corporate partners.
- Attention to detail, execution, and follow-up.
- Awareness of innovative fundraising trends and best practices.
- Innovative mindset with a willingness to adopt new fundraising techniques.
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends related to events, donor stewardship opportunities, etc.
The YouthLine Program Overview: YouthLine trains and supports youth volunteers to help other young people in crisis. Last year, YouthLine reached more than 25,000 young people in crisis - by text, phone, and chat. Young people reach out about the full range of challenges of growing up - from having a really bad day to folks who are actively suicidal. YouthLine volunteers help find hope and a way forward.
Based in Oregon and Hawai'i, our volunteers support young people experiencing crisis in all 50 states.
YouthLine volunteers also lead community prevention efforts, including outreach and engagement in schools and communities.
We are growing to meet the national need - and we need a specialist in major gifts and strategic partnerships to help us make it happen.
Major Gifts & Strategic Partnerships Manager Salary Details: $60,000-$72,500 depending on experience. New hires for this position would typically be expected to be brought into the organization between the minimum to midpoint of the salary range, depending on qualifications and internal equity. For example, a candidate with 3 years of experience would typically be placed on the low end of the salary range. Candidates with 10+ years of proven corporate sponsorship and major gifts development experience, and relevant certifications would be placed on the higher end. MO5
