Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for advanced mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and HVAC repairs on plant machinery and equipment. This role requires journeyman-level skills and the ability to work independently under the direction of the department supervisor.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex repairs and installations involving mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and refrigeration systems.
  • Interpret detailed machine drawings and electrical blueprints.
  • Maintain accurate documentation (labor vouchers, forms, instruction sheets).
  • Ensure work areas are clean and safe post-maintenance.
  • Install and repair castables in furnaces and other components.
  • Assist with heavy equipment moves requiring rigging or machinery.
  • Operate welding torches, power tools, and various fabrication equipment.
  • Repair and maintain pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform EPA-compliant refrigerant recovery and HVAC operations.
  • Handle hazardous waste and participate in neutralization and discharge processes.
  • Calibrate temperature measurement tools and maintain certification.
  • Attend required safety training (forklift, front loader, lockout/tagout, hazardous materials, etc.).

Tools & Materials Used

  • Tools: Hand tools, welding equipment, electrical meters, saws, lathes, HVAC gauges, drill press, and more.
  • Materials: Wood, pipe, conduit, concrete, electrical supplies, machine parts, and industrial chemicals.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent training.
  • Ability to read and interpret machine drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Current HVAC certification (or obtain EPA Level II within 12 months).
  • Valid Missouri driver's license.
  • Must own or acquire basic mechanical hand tools.
  • Physical capability to meet the demands of the role and tolerate varied conditions within the plant environment.

Work Environment

The role involves exposure to diverse environmental conditions both indoors and outdoors and requires adaptability to noise, moving equipment, and various maintenance-related hazards.
