Position Overview
We're hiring a Maintenance Technician to join the team at Journal Squared-an iconic residential community redefining the Jersey City skyline. Known for its bold architecture, panoramic views, and elevated living experience, Journal Squared is one of the most prominent high-rise communities in the region.
As Maintenance Technician, you'll be responsible for ensuring the proper function and upkeep of the building's electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, as well as the overall care of the property. This is a critical role ideal for a service-driven professional with a strong background in building operations and focused on delivering a high-quality experience for residents while ensuring all systems operate at peak performance.
Responsibilities
- Basic electrical work, including replacing lighting fixtures, outlets, and fuses.
- Basic plumbing, including replacing fixtures, changing pipes, fixing leaks, etc.
- Basic carpentry and masonry work, including plastering, painting, sheetrock, etc.
- Repair and maintain interior and exterior of property (Including demolition, drywall, grouting, trash pick-up, etc.).
- Fulfill work orders. Maintain 1-2 business-day turnaround time on tickets.
- Maintain the exterior and all common areas of the property.
- Prepare units for move-in, including but not limited to punch-out, painting, cleaning, and any other necessary work. Maintain one-week turnaround target.
- Ensure community facilities are well-maintained.
- Clean grounds, laundry rooms and common areas.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Maintenance Manager, Property Manager and/or Regional Property Manager.
- Perform general maintenance tasks (i.e., plumbing, painting, caulking, cabinetry repair, hardwood floor repairs, electrical issues, etc.)
- Have ability to work independently with minimal supervision and able to manage a maintenance team.
- Other duties assigned as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with Maintenance Manager and Property Manager.
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic maintenance and repair skills, including the use of hand tools and other necessary equipment.
- Must have valid driver's license.
- Must have working mobile telephone.
- Ability to use a mop, broom, vacuum cleaner, step ladder, snow blower and leaf blower.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time (8 hours or more per day) to perform the following physical activities: bending, climbing step ladders, lifting, carrying, grasping, gripping, turning, reaching above shoulders, pushing and pulling, climbing stairs; stooping and squat kneel
- Ability to communicate verbally in a professional manner with management, residents, and other staff.
- Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment.
- Understanding of electrical, plumbing & HVAC systems.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must uphold company standards for safety, tenants service and efficiency.
- Must have personal, reliable transportation for on-call emergencies.
- Previous apartment experience preferred.
- Ability to lift at least50 lbs.
- Must be able to endure walking, squatting, bending, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crawling and prolonged standing.
- On-call required on rotating schedule.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must have a working telephone.
