The Role The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the effective upkeep and repair of facilities and group homes. This role includes performing electrical work, plumbing, and carpentry. In addition to addressing immediate maintenance needs, the technician is also tasked with establishing and maintaining a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to improve the quality, safety, and appearance of all properties under their care. Essential Work Duties Completes all requested maintenance work daily and alerts management of extraordinary requests. Follow up and through on all assignments and activities relating to electrical, plumbing, appliance repair, and carpentry. Provide detailed reports to management. Assures that all facilities and equipment are properly maintained and in good, safe working order and that all necessary preventive maintenance work is performed on a timely basis with adequate record keeping and communication to management and customers. Assists in the movement of furniture, materials, and equipment as required. Drives assigned vehicles as required and maintain security of all assigned equipment and maintenance tools. Responsibilities Protect the rights and dignities of individuals with developmental disabilities and extend these rights and dignities to family members or guardians. Upholds and complies with all safety programs and policies to maintain a safe work environment for employees, consumers, family members, and visitors. Commits to organizational quality initiatives by participating in programs that will assure quality improvements and team processes, including regular staff meeting attendance. On-call seven days a week for emergencies only. Rotating on-call weekends. Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor related to the organizations mission, goals, and operations. Experience and Skills High school education or equivalent with a minimum of two years experience in building maintenance. General knowledge of all power tools: saws, drills, air tools, etc. Must have a strong mechanical background and independent electrical, carpentry, and plumbing abilities. Outstanding customer service skills with good team and quality improvement skills. Knowledge of safe equipment operation and safe and proper use of tools is essential. Must have a valid drivers license, safe driving record, and automobile insurance. Competencies Ability to work as part of a team. Problem-solving skills. Technical expertise. Internal/External Relationships Internal: Frequently all employee levels External: Occasionally MHRH Representatives, fire department, and outside contractors. Working Conditions Work inside or outside under all weather conditions, depending on the needs of the job. General knowledge of all power tools: saws, drills, air tools, etc. Required to wear personal protective equipment when needed. Physical and Mental Requirements Must be flexible and resourceful in areas that deal with maintenance issues and be able to take direction, self-initiate, and perform the job independently. Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, lift heavy objects, stand, sit for long periods, and perform physically all that is required to complete essential functions of this role. Work on assignments is moderately complex, requiring judgment in resolving problems and making routine recommendations. Typically receives no instruction on routine work and general instruction on new assignments. Must be task-orientated and possess basic writing and verbal skills. Must be physically capable of lifting over 100 lbs.
