Description Maintains, repairs, and performs basic maintenance of City of Longview facilities; provides preventative maintenance; constructs and installs building fixtures; plans projects; coordinates and receives quotes from tradesmen and supervise their work for compliance and quality; maintains and constructs building systems to include HVAC, plumbing and electrical; performs other duties as assigned. Examples of Duties Assists in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems, HVAC systems, sewers, and infrastructure; installs and maintains building signs. Maintains, repairs, and performs basic maintenance of City of Longview facilities . Provides preventative maintenance on building systems. Constructs and installs building fixtures such as cabinets, furniture, doors, and walls. Plans maintenance projects. Requests, supervises, and checks quality of work performed by HVAC, electrical, plumbing and other tradesmen. Get quotes and bids for materials and services. Maintains and constructs building systems, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical. Operates and maintains a variety of specialized vehicles, tools and equipment; cleans and performs routine maintenance work on tools and equipment. Purchases and replaces ballasts and light fixtures; converts some to LED type fixtures. Assists in ordering facility maintenance equipment and supplies as assigned. Completes required daily logs, work orders and receipts. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries. Performs other related duties as assigned or required. Minimum Requirements High School diploma or GED equivalent, and two years of building maintenance and construction experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License. Voucher of completion from the Career Training Program Construction and Trades course work in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, maintenance technician, HVAC or building assessment will be required within six months. Certification from The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) in carpentry, electrical, plumbing or painting is preferred. Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check. Physical Demands/Work Environment Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to hazardous equipment; requires constant physical efforts, and ability to lift and move items weighing up to forty (40) pounds.
