The Company

Our client is a food ingredient, industry leader that has been selling directly to consumer and pet food companies throughout the United States for over thirty years. Today they owned two state-of-the-art facilities in Kansas. This is a privately owned business.


Purpose of the Position

Manage the manufacturing and facility assets at the site ensuring performance reliability in a 24/7 manufacturing environment, to meet customer demands in a safe working environment. Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable standards, industry best practices, procedures and policies. This position will have direct supervision of the maintenance team and all associated maintenance administrative staff.


Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all Safety, and other established policies, processes, procedures, standards, and practices while achieving defined key performance indicators (KPIs) and meeting plant goals and objectives
  • Lead, set expectations, audit, enforce, remove barriers, and support:
  • Compliance and accountability for Safety, Environmental, and Work Procedures and Policies in area of responsibility, ensuring compliance, OSHA, GMP, and other applicable standards
  • Effective and efficient execution of maintenance processes, to include materials management
  • Implementation of Reliability-focused best practices for the plant, promoting proactive maintenance practices (RCA, precision maintenance, lubrication, etc.), and reducing reactive work
  • Full coordination of Maintenance with Production and other functions to correct identified defects and eliminate failures, continuously improve Plant reliability and maintenance, and resolve backlog issues, to include coordinating supplemental or back-up resources as needed
  • Lead and participate in formal and informal compliance audits
  • Create, monitor, and manage budgets and costs associated with maintenance, repair parts, contract labor, rentals, supplies, and overtime
  • Establish contracts and manage relationships with outside vendors/ contractors/ service providers as required for maintenance-related work
  • Develop and implement both long-term and short-term facility maintenance strategies
  • Develop and maintain 5-Year Capital Plan/capital asset replacement strategy
  • Execute near term projects
  • Participate in preparation meetings for extended outages to collaborate with Operations, ensuring proper prioritization and efficient execution of planned work
  • Audit, review, and address gaps in KPIs, Metrics, and program implementation, effectiveness, and efficiency
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all communications and reporting
  • Leadership:
  • Lead team, ensuring employees understand assignments, business goals and performance standards
  • Lead, motivate and empower direct reports, driving accountability to achieve Maintenance and professional goals and objectives
  • Teach, coach and mentor direct reports in reliability and leadership best practices
  • Develop others through coaching, feedback, exposure, and stretch assignments
  • Identify capabilities and assign job duties based on strengths
  • Focus on developing skills for today and the future
  • Formulate, implement, and track action plans to address skill gaps
  • Take immediate action with underperformers
  • Build partnerships and work collaboratively within the plant to meet shared objectives
  • Network with others to share knowledge, information, and best practices

The Candidate

Experience and Professional Qualifications

  • 7+ years' experience in application of best-practice reliability-focused maintenance methodologies in an industrial manufacturing environment, with a demonstrated understanding of facilities, utilities, machinery, and equipment
  • 3 years' experience in a similar management role
  • Self-starter with ability to deliver results while managing multiple tasks/projects, adapting to conflicting requirements, and adjusting within a rapidly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated successful implementation of effective reliability and maintenance improvements associated with practice changes, equipment redesign, upgrades, and replacements.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, facilitation and presentation skills; able to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of management and plant personnel.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CMMS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Management, or equivalent experience
