Position: Lyon Township Maintenance / Department of Public Works (DPW)

General Responsibilities:
Lyon Township is looking for a qualified person to fill a position in the Department of Public Works (DPW). This is a full-time position. Qualified candidate will be responsible for assisting with lawn maintenance, landscaping and other maintenance duties as assigned. Work schedule is Monday-Thursday 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have a valid driver license
- Ability to learn commercial lawn maintenance equipment
- Must be comfortable working outside in the elements, be comfortable working with tools (hand and power) and comfortable walking long distances
- Basic knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of sidewalks, buildings, parks, grounds, etc.
- Basic skills in the operation of assigned vehicles, equipment, and power tools
- 90-day probation period
Responsibilities:
- Lawn maintenance and landscaping, such as but not limited to:
- Weed removal
- Edging
- Planting
- Lay mulch
- Leaf removal
- Mowing and trimming
- Performs general labor in support of public works operations and operates a wide range of associated equipment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in the field but is also required to work in a business office setting
- Team oriented position - will work closely with other Township departments and personnel with maintenance activities, investigation of resident complaints or concerns, etc.
- Will perform traditional and innovative DPW maintenance, such as asphalt repair and replacement, trash removal, cemetery maintenance, park maintenance, cleaning public restrooms, snow removal from parking areas and sidewalks, etc.
- Assists in light maintenance and repair tasks involving carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical
- Assist with setup and take down of Township sponsored events
- Installs banners and seasonal or holiday decorations including but not limited to raising and lowering flags
- On call rotation in winter months and some mandatory overtime
