The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the compliance of rotating industrial machinery and ASME code-stamped pressure vessels, working closely with cross-functional teams to meet the specific needs of customers in advanced process technologies. My client manufactures separation equipment used across various industries, utilizing methods like heat exchange and centrifugal force. They operate in a heavy manufacturing environment with CNC machines, manual equipment, and robotic welding. The company uses ERP software to manage production and operations.

Description

Responsibilities:

  • Perform design and calculations for ASME code-compliant pressure vessels.
  • Design and analyze industrial rotating machinery and equipment.
  • Select and validate mechanical components such as seals, bearings, motors, pumps, and more.
  • Create and review various project documentation, including:
    • Code calculations and detailed design reports
    • Stress and deflection analyses
    • Tolerance analysis and associated GD&T requirements
    • Technical specifications
    • CAD models and drawings for fabrication, machining, assembly, and customer needs
    • Equipment and piping layouts
    • Design and manufacturing strategies
  • Develop conceptual designs for prototypes and new products.
  • Design lifting devices, fixtures, and tooling for large-scale manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., manufacturing, quality control) to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Review and ensure technical specifications compliance for both projects and individual components.
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) for structural and thermal assessments and present findings to varied technical audiences.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives across teams.
  • Assist in the creation and review of quality and departmental operating procedures.
  • Provide guidance and oversight on mechanical design work from junior engineers and mechanical designers.

Profile

Ideal Candidate:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) with 5-10 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) with 5+ years of relevant experience, including:
    • Expertise in ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 1
    • Industrial machine design, particularly for dynamic or rotating equipment
    • Static and dynamic stress/deflection analysis under various loading conditions (thermal, pressure, mechanical)

General Skills:

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of pressure vessel design, including welding techniques, material selection, and fabrication practices
  • Proficiency in ASME B31.3 Process Piping, as well as the design and analysis of piping layouts
  • Expertise in interpreting and creating engineering drawings and CAD models; familiarity with GD&T and drafting standards
  • Experience with ANSYS or other FEA tools for analyzing static structural and thermal models
  • Proficient in SolidWorks, Codeware COMPRESS, DraftSight/AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (metal fabrication, machining, welding, and assembly) with the ability to collaborate with manufacturing teams
  • Strong foundation in engineering principles, including stress and deflection analysis applied to real-world design scenarios
  • Proven ability to optimize designs for manufacturability, cost reduction, material savings, and part count reduction
  • Experience with SolidWorks PDM (Enterprise/Professional) or similar PLM/PDM systems in a multi-user environment
  • Familiar with engineering processes such as change procedures, quality control, approval workflows, document control, and CAD data management
