Job Summary:
The Machine Technologist is responsible for driving continuous improvement in Ralphs-Pugh's Machine Shop by executing projects that enhance operational efficiency, product quality, and throughput through process improvements.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
- Lead and implement special projects aimed at improving process efficiency, tooling, and equipment to enhance accuracy, quality, and throughput in the machine shop.
- Perform programming, setup, and operation of CNC and manual machines for a variety of manufacturing operations.
- Manage the daily operations of CNC and manual machine centers, lathes, mills, and all supporting equipment, ensuring timely delivery and product quality.
- Ensure compliance with safety rules and OSHA regulations; maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with company policies.
- Propose and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize machine shop practices.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Department to ensure all equipment is properly maintained and address equipment issues as they arise.
- Provide regular updates to senior management on machine shop operations, including scheduling, equipment status, and project progress.
- Implement and maintain a 5S program in conjunction with Director of Operations.
- Supervise tool inventory and its replenishment to meet production requirements. Order through Purchasing and manage materials and consumables for Machine Shop.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English
- Strong ability in performing complex arithmetic and trigonometry calculations.
- 10-20 years of hands-on experience in a machine shop, including programming and operating both CNC and manual machines.
- 5-10 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a machine shop environment.
- Guide/mentor to machinists and machine operators to improve throughput and minimize waste.
- Ability to identify process constraints (bottlenecks) and implement solutions.
- Strong metrology background with the ability to correctly use hand and surface plate tools.
- Experience with Mazak CNC lathes a strong plus.
- Proficient in fabricating, assembling, and building prototypes.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with colleagues, management and vendors.
- Physically capable of lifting, carrying, and moving items up to 50 lbs.
- Dependable, with good attendance and minimal absences.
- Performs additional duties as required.

Working Conditions:

Education Requirements:
An AA degree in a machine shop-related field and/or Machining Certificate, or equivalent experience is required.
