The Northwell Health Transplant Institute and Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery are seeking an attending surgeon to join us as a Thoracic and Lung Transplant Surgeon. The ideal candidate will be board-certified in thoracic surgery with additional fellowship training specializing in lung transplantation. Significant experience in performing lung transplant surgeries and managing complex thoracic cases is preferred.
The lung transplant program, based at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY is the first and only full-service destination for lung transplant in Nassau and Suffolk counties. We offer the full spectrum of care to advanced lung failure patients, including but not limited to cardiopulmonary exercise testing, advanced imaging, electrophysiology, and participation in investigator-initiated and sponsored clinical trials. Northwell similarly has one of the largest general thoracic programs in New York, performing more than 3,200 general thoracic surgeries across our system per year. Furthermore, Northwell has robust and well-established medical programs for interstitial lung disease, COPD, pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis, among others.
The Northwell Transplant Institute combines all solid organ transplant programs which include the heart, lung, liver, and kidney programs under one umbrella. The Transplant Institute has a strong partnership with the Department of Medicine, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Northwell s Lung Institute. With an integrated network of dedicated interdisciplinary clinical and administrative professionals, Northwell has continued to invest in system-wide medical lung failure programs across several hospitals, regions, and ambulatory sites. Northwell also has a robust ECMO and ECMO-to-go program, supported by the Northwell Center for Emergency Medicine Services (EMS). Northwell EMS operates one of the largest hospital-based EMS services in the country, an integrated centralized transfer center, as well as a multi-aircraft air-medical transport program.
The infrastructure dedicated to cardiothoracic surgery including transplant and MCS includes experienced and full-time PAs and NPs, a 6-year integrated residency, and a 2-year traditional cardiothoracic fellowship, as well as 24/7 critical care intensivists that are under the department of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery. The Petrocelli Surgical Pavilion is a new 288,000 square-foot facility with a dedicated transplant suite and ultra-modern intensive care unit. Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital at North Shore University Hospital is home to one of New York s largest and most successful cardiac programs.

This is a full-time, academic position with vast clinical, research, and teaching opportunities. The candidate will receive an academic appointment at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell commensurate with experience and academic credentials.
