Position Summary

Job Description:
York Country Day School seeks a dynamic and dedicated Lower School teacher to join the faculty as a long-term substitute during a portion of the school year.

The long-term substitute teacher will teach second grade beginning two weeks before the start of the associated teacher's leave. The approximate start date will be in April 2025. Exact start and end dates will be determined closer to the service window.

The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching young children, knowledgeable of childhood cognitive developmental needs and appropriate practices, well-versed in child-centered learning, and capable of creating an environment that fosters a love of learning. The individual selected will be expected to motivate, assess, engage, and develop student learning while managing the routine daily activities of second-grade students.

Looking for an experienced, highly qualified, and energetic long-term substitute teacher as an addition to the YCDS Lower School faculty

Essential Functions
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials facilitating active learning.
  • Along with students, create an inclusive and inviting learning environment in the classroom and throughout the Lower School.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Support student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Observe, evaluate, and provide feedback on student performance and development.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and provide differentiated instruction and materials as needed.
  • Participate in school and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, parents, colleagues, and administration regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Experience and Education Required
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in elementary education
  • Master's degree with a major in elementary education or early childhood is preferred
  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience preferred

  • Experience with differentiated instruction and appreciation of each child as an individual with diverse needs
  • Experience integrating technology and applying 21st-century learning within the classroom
  • Knowledge of and experience with STEAM/STEM learning experiences for students
  • Along with students, create an inclusive and inviting learning environment in the classroom and throughout the Lower School.
