About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Orthopedic Surgeon for a locum tenens position at a hospital in California. This assignment begins on 06/06/2025 and initially covers 10 days of 24-hour call shifts, with specific urgent dates in June and July, and additional coverage expected from August through December. The surgeon will provide on-call coverage for the ER at a trauma facility, handling general orthopedic cases including fractures, dislocations, and procedures involving knees, hips, shoulders, and elbows. The role includes managing follow-up care in the clinic during weekday mornings. This position offers a blend of emergency and clinical orthopedic practice with potential for extension.

Responsibilities and Duties:


• Provide 24-hour on-call orthopedic surgery coverage for the ER


• Manage and treat fractures, dislocations, and other orthopedic emergencies


• Perform general orthopedic procedures, including knee, hip, shoulder, and elbow surgeries


• Conduct follow-up care for patients in the clinic during weekday mornings


• Utilize fluoroscopy for diagnostic and treatment purposes


• Collaborate with ER staff and other healthcare professionals


• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using Cerner EMR system


• Ensure compliance with all relevant medical and ethical guidelines


• Adapt to the needs of a trauma facility


• Participate in the hospital's trauma response system


• Stay updated on current orthopedic surgery practices and techniques


Additional Information:


• Must be licensed to practice medicine in California


• California temporary fluoroscopy license required (or willingness to obtain immediately)


• Experience in trauma orthopedics and general orthopedic procedures essential


• Comfortable managing a diverse range of orthopedic cases in an ER setting


• Ability to work efficiently in both emergency and clinical environments


• Strong communication skills for effective teamwork and patient care


• Flexibility to cover urgent dates and additional shifts as needed
