Description:
8H day shift: HS diploma or equivalent, Bachelors or Associates degree preferred, Min of 3 years of experience in a medical setting, preferably with ophthalmology. Experience with surgical booking, preferably ophthalmology. The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for scheduling all major surgical procedures including, but not necessarily limited to, vitreo-retinal and cataract surgery. Ensures that all ancillary services pre/post-surgery are scheduled for the patient and that the patient is adequately cleared for surgical procedures. Essential Responsibilities of the Job: Essential responsibilities are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.
1. Schedules surgical procedures at outpatient facilities, making sure all surgical block time is utilized. Releases any unused blocks in a timely manner to prevent surgeons from being penalized.
2. Works with patient to ensure the required ancillary appointments are scheduled in a timely manner and they understand the pre- and post-surgical requirements.
3. Maintains multiple automated schedules for surgeons. Editing as necessary.
4. Works with patient to obtain all necessary referrals for pre-surgical appointments and works directly with insurance company to obtain any prior authorizations for surgical procedures.
5. Assembles all necessary paper work for surgery packets and ensures that packets are received by Pre-Admission Offices and Operation Room in timely manner.
6. Adjusts clinic schedules accordingly to accommodate any added surgical cases and contacts any patients being canceled / rescheduled.
7. Acts as primary liaison for patient to surgeon and vice-versa.
8. Works with Medical/Clinical Assistants to maintain stock of consent forms, patient brochures, patient supplies, etc.
9. Reviews and updates patient registration, demographic and insurance information as necessary.
10. Obtains referrals and prior authorizations when appropriate.
11. Provides general information to patients regarding surgery information.
12. Provides cross coverage to the Medical Office Coordinators and Patient Access Representatives as needed.
13. Performs other projects or tasks as assigned by Practice Manager and/or Supervisor. Must be separated from BILH for at least 6 months to be considered to return (perm, per diem, travel)
