Compensation: $68-$73/hour
Position Overview Amergis is seeking an experienced and assertive Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide short-term primary and chronic care to adult male and female inmates. This is a premium locum tenens opportunity in a correctional healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities - Conduct patient assessments and physical exams
- Manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, pain, and wounds
- Prescribe and manage medications
- Provide urgent care-style services and short-term treatment
- Document care using the NextGen EMR system
Qualifications - Licensure: Active Texas license (required)
- Certifications: BLS and DEA (required)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience preferred
- Correctional healthcare experience strongly preferred
- No new graduates will be considered
- Background: Must have a fully clean background (no exceptions)
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Required (no exemptions allowed)

Work Environment - Patient volume: Up to 23 patients/day (may vary due to refusals)

- Team: 5-6 mid-level providers and a Medical Director
- Population: Adult male and female inmates

Interview & Onboarding - Interview Process:
- Initial screening
- Teams interview with Site Manager and the Medical Director
- Orientation:
- 3-hour onsite orientation
- HR onboarding
- Shadowing with another NP/PA until comfortable
- Onboarding Timeline:
- 2-4 weeks
- May extend to 4-8 weeks due to background checks
