Location: near San Marcos, TX

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (No on-call)
Compensation: $60- $70/hour (All-inclusive rate)

Position Summary

Amergis is seeking a skilled and assertive Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide short-term, solution-focused care to an adult inmate population. This is a full-time locum tenens role with immediate interview availability.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct physical exams and patient assessments.
  • Manage chronic and primary care conditions including diabetes, pain, and wound care.
  • Prescribe and manage medications.
  • Deliver care in a setting similar to urgent care.
  • Maintain clear clinical boundaries and ensure safety standards.
Patient & Facility Details
  • Population: Adult male and female inmates.
  • Patient Volume: Up to 23 patients/day (may vary due to refusals).
  • EMR System: NextGen.
  • Team Structure: 5-6 mid-level providers and a Medical Director.
Qualifications
  • Licensure: Active Texas license required (no exceptions).
  • Certifications: BLS and DEA required.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred; correctional healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Background: Must have a full clean background (mandatory).
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Required (no exemptions allowed).

  • Assertive personality with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable setting boundaries and saying "no" when necessary.
Interview & Onboarding
  • Interview Process: Teams interview with the Medical Director.
  • Orientation: 3-hour facility orientation, followed by HR onboarding and shadowing with another provider.
  • Onboarding Timeline: Typically 2-4 weeks; may extend to 4-8 weeks due to background checks.
