Position Summary Amergis is seeking a skilled and assertive Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide short-term, solution-focused care to an adult inmate population. This is a full-time locum tenens role with immediate interview availability.
Key Responsibilities - Conduct physical exams and patient assessments.
- Manage chronic and primary care conditions including diabetes, pain, and wound care.
- Prescribe and manage medications.
- Deliver care in a setting similar to urgent care.
- Maintain clear clinical boundaries and ensure safety standards.
Patient & Facility Details - Population: Adult male and female inmates.
- Patient Volume: Up to 23 patients/day (may vary due to refusals).
- EMR System: NextGen.
- Team Structure: 5-6 mid-level providers and a Medical Director.
Qualifications - Licensure: Active Texas license required (no exceptions).
- Certifications: BLS and DEA required.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred; correctional healthcare experience strongly preferred.
- Background: Must have a full clean background (mandatory).
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Required (no exemptions allowed).

- Comfortable setting boundaries and saying "no" when necessary.
Interview & Onboarding - Interview Process: Teams interview with the Medical Director.
- Orientation: 3-hour facility orientation, followed by HR onboarding and shadowing with another provider.
- Onboarding Timeline: Typically 2-4 weeks; may extend to 4-8 weeks due to background checks.
