Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited program in Allied Health Sciences
- RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) required
- BLS and ACLS from AHA.
- Must have at least 1 year of experience scrubbing within Cath Lab, Diagnostics, PCI's, Impellas, Balloon Pumps, Peripheral diagnostic interventions
- With team assistance:
- Lift patients between stretcher/bed and procedure table
- Push beds/stretchers with immobilized patients
Schedule Requirements:
- Must have weekends available for scheduled Call.
- Call one weekend (F-M) per month.
- 1-2 days/call per week.
- No block scheduling.
- Must be able to work holidays.
Preferred:
- Structural Heart and EP (electrophysiology) experience preferred but not required.
- IR experience preferred but not required.
JOB DUTIES:
Clinical Knowledge & Judgment
- Demonstrates in-depth understanding of cardiac, vascular, respiratory, and renal physiology and pathology.
- Recognizes and interprets ECG waveform morphology, including:
- Lethal arrhythmias
- Chamber enlargement patterns
- Ischemic changes and infarctions
- Applies ACLS protocols and intervenes appropriately in cardiac arrest scenarios.
- Recognizes abnormal clinical lab values (ABG, electrolytes, hemoglobin, BUN, creatinine) and notifies physicians accordingly.
Cardiac Medications & Pharmacology
- Comprehensive knowledge of cardiac medications.
- Understands pharmacokinetics and actions related to cardiac/vascular function.
- Accurately documents all medication administration, including indications and dosages.
Procedural & Technical Skills
- Monitors and assists in diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations.
- Identifies coronary anatomy and cardiac pressure waveforms in cine angiography.
- Performs:
- Cardiac outputs
- Oxygen saturation measurements
- ACT (Activated Clotting Time)
- Calculates hemodynamic parameters using recording systems.
- Proficient with interventional techniques including:
- PTCA
- Rotational atherectomy (rotoblator)
- Laser revascularization
- Angiojet
- Monitors and differentiates among interventions during procedures.
Advanced Imaging & Devices
- Understands and utilizes:
- Intravascular ultrasound
- Doppler velocimetry
- Fluoroscopy systems used in Cath Lab
- Assists with procedures involving:
- Electrophysiologic studies
- Pacemaker/ICD implants
- Therapeutic ablations
- Able to optimize fluoroscopy equipment for physician visibility during procedures.
- Fully capable of responding to lethal arrhythmias and cardiac arrest situations.
- Skilled in CPR and ACLS interventions in high-acuity Cath Lab settings.
