Eastern States Steel, a family owned and operated steel service center since 1979, is seeking immediate hire for a dedicated Loading and Unloading Associate to join our warehouse team and contribute to our operational excellence.

Job Summary

The Loading and Unloading Associate is responsible for the safe and efficient handling, loading, and unloading of steel products, including coils, sheets, and structural components. This role involves operating material handling equipment, ensuring accurate order fulfillment, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment. The position also requires other miscellaneous warehouse work and operational work as required by the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Material Handling: Safely load and unload products (coils, sheets, bars, etc.) as required from trucks or other delivery vehicles using forklifts, overhead cranes, or other equipment.
  • Order Verification: Inspect and verify incoming and outgoing shipments against order documentation to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, processing equipment and other material handling in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in organizing and storing steel products in designated warehouse areas to maintain an orderly inventory.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe lifting techniques.
  • Quality Control: Check materials for damage or defects and report any issues to supervisors promptly.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with warehouse team members, drivers, and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow and timely order processing.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or safety concerns.
  • Documentation: Complete necessary paperwork or digital records related to shipments, inventory, and material handling activities.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or steel service center environment is a plus but not required.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Ability to safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, or other material handling equipment (certification preferred but training provided).
    • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order fulfillment.
    • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.
    • Basic math skills for inventory counts and measurements.
    • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to weather conditions, noise, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Certifications: Forklift or crane operator certification is a plus; willingness to obtain certification is required.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Must be reliable, punctual, and ability to maintain excellent communication. Position requires consistent attendance to execute job requirements.
    • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.

Physical Demands

  • Standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including bending, stooping, and climbing.
