Oppenheim + Zebrak, LLP a fast-growing, boutique law firm with a nationwide practice handling copyright, anti-piracy and technology matters is looking to hire a Litigation Paralegal/Legal Assistant. The position requires someone who is organized, confident, able to work independently, and who has a positive "can do" attitude. Strong computer skills are a must (see Qualifications), as are excellent written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience as a paralegal and familiarity with Relativity and the eDiscovery process is desired.
Job duties are diverse and include investigating and conducting research to support legal proceedings, drafting and reviewing legal documents, developing, organizing, and supporting cases, both pre-litigation and during litigation. The job involves exercising sound judgment and taking pride in tackling projects in a creative, practical, and value-added manner.
Responsibilities:
- Support eDiscovery processes, facilitating the review and organization of digital documents.
- Use Relativity to manage document review projects, including organizing, tagging, and analyzing documents for discovery, trial preparation, and case strategy.
- Correspond with banks and federal/local government institutions to ensure seamless communication.
- Monitor and respond to docket notifications to maintain up-to-date case status.
- Coordinate schedules for deadlines, depositions, and meetings.
- Organize and prepare litigation documents and exhibits for depositions.
- Draft, edit, and format letters, memos, and other legal documents for attorney use.
- Review subpoenas, ECF filings, and internal documentation.
- Perform legal research and analyze Federal and Local Rules applicable to each case.
- Manage copyright and trademark information relevant to ongoing or future litigation.
- Maintain regular communication with attorneys to support case progression.
- Provide general administrative support as needed.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate has an undergraduate degree, is a team player with strong organization skills, effective communication skills, keen attention to detail, the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, and the ability to work independently. Strong computer skills (particularly with Microsoft Office, familiarity navigating online marketplaces, and familiarity with general database concepts) are a must.
- 2-3 years previous Paralegal experience
- May consider candidates with other legal field/legal research experience
- Mastery of the following programs: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, SharePoint & macOS
- Knowledge of LexisNexis and WestLaw
- Experience with Relativity or similar eDiscovery programs
- Experience in eDiscovery searching, filtering techniques and analytics tools
- Knowledge of Pacer/ECF and USPTO filing systems
- Ability to prioritize and multitask while meeting tight or short-notice deadlines
- Superb written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-orientation, tremendous organization, and flexibility
- Positive attitude and ability to work well in groups
