Location : 100% On Site in Washington, D.C.


Our Client is looking for a Paralegal to work on-site in support of the Tax Division of the Department of Justice, Financial Litigation Unit.

Excellent opportunity for recent law school graduates or part-time law students.


Required Qualifications:


• Paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study (or equivalent)


• 2+ years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience, including at least one year of experience in automated litigation support.


• Knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.


• Knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.


• Familiarity with Client tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.


• Familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.


• Must be knowledgeable user of the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, word processing, database, spreadsheet, imaging, and telecommunications systems.


•Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.


Responsibilities include:


• Works with Tax - FLU attorneys and IRS attorneys


• Works with ALS(primarily Case Managers) to make sure the case has the necessary technology and is properly addressing E-Discovery;


• Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents;


• Research legal issues that arise in the cases and conduct public asset searches to determine what assets the debtors hold;


• Negotiate settlements and payment plans;


• Draft memoranda recommending that offers either be accepted or rejected;


• Summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs simple legal research; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery);


• indexes, tracks and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial. Prepares exhibit cross-references;


• Assists attorneys in courtroom;


• Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.
