Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Paralegal with a strong background in insurance defense litigation and a working knowledge of New York court filing procedures. The ideal candidate will provide critical support to our attorneys by managing legal documentation, coordinating case files, and ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
Responsibilities:
- Support attorneys in all aspects of insurance defense litigation, including personal injury, property damage, and general liability matters.
- Draft and file legal documents such as pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and discovery requests/responses.
- Conduct legal research and summarize findings related to insurance claims and relevant statutes.
- Organize and maintain case files, medical records, deposition transcripts, and trial materials.
- Assist in preparation for hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
- File documents with New York State courts (e-filing and physical filing as needed), ensuring compliance with local rules and deadlines.
- Manage and track deadlines using litigation calendars and docketing systems.
- Communicate with clients, experts, witnesses, and court personnel in a professional manner.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a litigation paralegal, specifically in insurance defense.
- Proficiency in New York court systems, including electronic filing (NYSCEF).
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and rules of civil procedure.
- Excellent organizational, research, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and litigation support software (e.g., Relativity, CaseMap, or similar).
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
