Saul Ewing LLP is seeking a skilled paralegal to supports sit in its Los Angeles office. The Litigation Paralegal assists attorneys with case planning, development, and management, legal research, interviews clients, gathers facts and retrieves information, drafts and analyzes legal documents and collects, compiles and utilizes technical information, to make recommendations to the attorney.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
  • Drafts legal documents including routine case pleadings such as complaints, answers, and supporting motion documents.
  • Files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.
  • Assist attorneys in all phases of discovery, including preparing discovery responses and requests
  • Document collection and review, electronic filing, maintaining litigation calendars, and research and analysis of evidence to be used in litigation cases.
  • Review, legal cite check, fact cite check and proofread of legal documents and discovery.
  • Research and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys.
  • Interviews clients and witnesses and prepares summaries of their statements.
  • Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
  • Assist attorneys with deposition preparation, which may include attending deposition
  • Assist attorneys with arbitrations and mediation, which may include attending those events.
  • Assists attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings.
  • Develops and maintains records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while exercising discretion and good judgement
  • Proficient within Microsoft office
  • Proficient within eDiscovery software as well as trial assistant platform
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

Educational and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a California litigation paralegal in a law firm close to Saul Ewing's size
  • Paralegal certificate
  • Trial preparation experience
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or related field preferred

The pay for this position will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, education, external market data, internal equity, and other job-related factors. The anticipated pay range for this role is between $70k to $95k annually.
