Job Description

Event Strategies, Inc. (ESI) is a full service event production company based in Alexandria, VA. ESI is in the market to hire lighting technicians with a passion to produce both large and small scale events locally and nationwide. Events include conferences, trade shows, concerts, outdoor and indoor political speaking events, traveling shows, and more.


Compensation

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid driver's license
  • Comfortable executing large-scale events with a large amount of attendees
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Effective in communicating and coordinating with colleagues and clients
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Set up, operate, and maintain lighting equipment for events, including stage lighting, architectural lighting, and special, thematic effects
  • Collaborate with event planners, producers, and other technical staff to determine lighting needs and design concepts
  • Perform pre-event inspections and sound/lighting checks to ensure all lighting equipment is functioning properly
  • Adjust and control lighting during events to create the desired atmosphere and effect
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with lighting systems quickly and efficiently
  • Assist with the design and implementation of lighting cues and transitions during live events
  • Safely handle and operate rigging equipment, including ladders, hoists, and other tools used to install lighting fixtures
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that all lighting gear is stored and transported properly
  • Follow all safety protocols and industry standards during setup, operation, and takedown
  • Stay current with industry trends and new lighting technologies

Experience

  • Two (2) years of professional Lighting Technician experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of lighting systems, including moving lights, LED lights, spotlights, and control consoles
  • Proficiency in using lighting software such as Capture Lighting Design Software and High End Systems Hog 4 consoles.
  • Familiarity with DMX, sACN and Art-Net and other lighting control protocols
  • Familiarity with lighting rigging
  • Ability to develop a light plot
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix lighting equipment issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure, especially during live events
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience with stage rigging and understanding of safety protocols for overhead lighting setups
  • Experience with live-streaming and broadcast lighting
  • Flexible schedule with availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A degree or certification in lighting design, electrical engineering, or a related field is a plus, but not required

Environment

  • Work is performed at event venues such as hotel ballrooms, conference centers, arenas, concert venues as well as outdoors in amphitheaters, fields, etc with a large media component.
  • You may also have the opportunity to work in the ESI warehouse for gear pulling and equipment maintenance. Team members working times may be irregular hours and on-call status including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
