Summary The Nursing Supervisor assists in directing the operations of the Assisted Living by performing the following duties. Other duties may be assigned; Responsible for oversight of delivery of care on the (1) first shift by directing and participating in nursing care. Contributes to care planning and discharge planning. Plans and organizes activities related to specify clinical services to ensure resident needs are met in accordance with professional standards of medical and long term care nursing administrative procedures. Coordinates activities with other departments, ambulance services, medical staff, residents' relatives, clergy, morticians, and other health facilities. Develops, implements, and evaluates methods to ensure effective and efficient use of staff, facilities, equipment, and other resources while maintaining resident care standards. Develops, implements, and coordinates quality management, utilization review, and discharge planning programs in conjunction with the CQI process. Consults with DON, Associate Director and medical staff on resident care or nursing problems and interpretation of facility policies to ensure resident needs are met. Assists in planning and organizing orientation and in-service training for staff members, and participates in guidance and educational programs.Supervises units to observe procedures and make appropriate suggestions and recommendations for improving techniques, policies, and procedures. Assists DON to formulate budget based on appropriate workload indicators and anticipated revenues. Monitors and controls department costs to maintain expenditures within allocations. Recommends acquisition of capital equipment. Engages in studies and investigations related to improving delivery of services. Supervises infection control and quality assurance of all nursing areas and reports to Infection Control nurse. Maintains direct stock levels of nursing medications, supplies, and equipment. Replaces the DON in his/her absence. Participates in appropriate departmental committees. Rotation of weekend phone coverage with the DON. Training of all new staff members. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident, staff, and organization information. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises employees in the Assisted Living. Assists DON in carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience Must be a LPN with a minimum of 2 years long term care experience and at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
