General Description:

This position: provides accurate, timely access to Library holdings for students, faculty, and staff by fulfilling duties in copy cataloging/bibliographic editing of library materials, technical processing, interlibrary loan, and digitization of library materials; maintains procedures and statistics; performs database maintenance and other special projects

Minimum Education/Experience:

High school diploma/GED

Minimum (1) year work experience in an office environment

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge:
Productivity software experience

Attention to detail, especially in regards to grammar, spelling, and editing written text.

Skills:
Communicating, both verbally and in writing

Critical thinking

Typing 40-45 wpm accurately

Abilities:
Do detailed work in an organized manner.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is sedentary work which requires the person in this position to occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
This position requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

This position requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions.

Work is performed in a relatively safe and secure work environment.

Work is performed during office hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

Library work experience

Previous work experience with digitization hardware and software

Previous work experience with Adobe Creative Suite

Previous work experience with the WorldShare platform

Required Training:

Quarterly compliance training as assigned by institution.

Work Hours:

Consistent schedule of 20 hours per week, hours negotiable within business hours, M-F; 8am-5pm

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Copy catalogs newly acquired Library materials by identifying and editing appropriate bibliographic records in OCLC and applying local data.

Processes physical Library materials in a timely and accurate manner.

Performs borrowing and lending interlibrary loan activities using the WorldShare platform.

Performs troubleshooting as needed, communicates with patrons, and uses critical thinking skills to solve complex requests.

Manages a workflow for the digitization of Library materials in cooperation with the Systems Librarian.

Uses social media to encourage collaborative identification relevant to individuals in digitized photographs.

Repairs damaged materials as needed to continue to provide access to users; and processes newly received periodicals.

Keeps an accurate record of activities/tasks and jobs performed to create statistics for Technical Services.

Tracks the usage of supplies and submits order requests as needed.

Maintains the electronic records of Library holdings by withdrawing and adding materials as needed.

Electronically processes serials check-in and claims.

Creates ongoing displays to generate patron interest and promote Library resources.

Confirms availability of electronic resources by performing monthly integrity checks on metadata.

Maintains detailed procedures manuals with step-by-step instructions for interlibrary loan, copy cataloging, processing, digitization, and other technical services workflow.

Assists in the location and identification of lost/misplaced materials by conducting thorough searches of the library's physical spaces; and performs special projects as assigned.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
