Salary(C-E Steps)Library Clerk I: $16.72 - $18.44 Hourly
Potential Bilingual Incentive Bilingual Incentive Pay is +5% above the Library Clerk I base salary for Extra Help positions.
IDEAL CANDIDATE: Ideal candidates have a passion for reading and learning as well as have good English, math and computer skills. Additionally, candidates should be detail-oriented with great people skills. Candidates should also have excellent memorization, organization and research skills. Experience with programming and outreach is highly desired.
ABOUT THE POSITION: Under the direction of the Librarian or Library Assistant, performs a variety of duties involving circulation, reference assistance, clerical and record keeping activities at all library locations.
This position will be utilized at all locations (Red Bluff, Corning and Los Molinos) and will be expected to work closing shifts until 7:00pm when working in Red Bluff.Examples of Duties- Performs circulation duties as required, including checking materials in and out of the library, emptying the book drop, registering new patrons, issuing library cards, and receiving and receipting payments for overdue or lost materials, etc.
- Performs various duties involved in library technical services, including preparing and receiving/checking in book shipments, routing books to branch locations, etc.
- Assists patrons with routine reference questions and directs patrons to appropriate resources within the library; reserves books and materials for patrons; assists patrons in the use of library equipment and resources.
- Performs daily library opening/closing procedures as directed.
- Assists with special programs and activities as requested.
- Bilingual Candidates: Translates, interprets and otherwise communicates with members of the Spanish speaking community.

- Equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade.
- One (1) year of experience working in a library is desirable.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
LICENSE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Requires a valid California driver's license.

BILINGUAL CANDIDATES: • Must pass a Merit Systems Services written and/or oral bilingual proficiency test (or other appropriate test selected by the County) to qualify.
Recruitment Information The Department is currently recruiting for Extra Help . In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Library Clerk I - Extra Help, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range (for this position, C step). Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than C step.

SALARY: - Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).
HEALTH: - Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST.
- Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 for employee and all eligible dependents.
PAID LEAVES: - Benefits also include an annual paid leave plan of
- 96 hours of vacation (increases upon continuous years of service)
- 96 hours of sick leave
- 14 paid holidays plus one 8 hour personal holiday
LIFE INSURANCE: - Approximately 80% of the premium for a $30,000 life insurance plan for the employee is paid for by the County.
RETIREMENT: - A retirement plan through CalPERS.
- CalPERS Formulas:
- Classic member = 2% 55
- New Member = 2% 62
- A Deferred Compensation retirement plan option with a County match of up to a maximum of $60 per month.
