Legal Secretary

Location: Southfield, MI (Hybrid - 2 days per week in office)

Contract: Through September could be extended

Pay Rate: $24 - $26 per hour

Are you an experienced and highly organized Legal Secretary looking for a temporary opportunity within a dynamic legal environment? We are seeking a skilled individual to support our Staff Counsel team in Southfield, Michigan. This is a hybrid role requiring in-office presence two days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to Staff Counsel attorneys.
  • Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and correspondence.
  • Manage and organize case files, both electronically and in hard copy.
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments, and court appearances.
  • Maintain attorney calendars and ensure timely reminders of deadlines.
  • Handle telephone calls, take messages, and direct inquiries appropriately.
  • Process expense reports and invoices.
  • Assist with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and witness files.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Desired Experience:

Candidates should possess a strong background in legal secretarial work, ideally with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Insurance company staff counsel
  • Defense firm
  • Plaintiff firm
  • Personal injury litigation

While 5+ years of relevant experience is preferred, candidates with less experience but a strong alignment with the desired areas will also be considered.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Legal Secretary.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
