Apply your experience as a legal secretary in Nevada County's County Counsel office. County Counsel is seeking a Legal Secretary I/II or Senior.

County Counsel provides general legal representation to the County and special districts in close coordination and collaboration with the Board of Supervisors and County Executive Officer. You will work closely with the County Counsel, attorneys, and staff to provide legal administrative support and assist in handling sophisticated and critical legal matters.

Examples of Duties

Responsibilities may include:
  • Assist in the preparation of correspondence and legal documents, including briefs, motions, petitions, resolutions, ordinances, legal opinions, contracts, leases, agreements, and investigative reports.
  • Draft and format legal documents using accurate terminology and knowledge of procedures for filing in the courts.
  • Maintain appointment calendars and be responsible for scheduling a variety of meetings.
  • Make and prepare travel arrangements for staff.
Knowledge and Skills Required

Knowledge of legal administrative practices is key to this position as you perform a variety of legal secretarial and administrative duties for County legal staff. While not required, an ideal candidate would have skills in online research and legal case management software. The successful candidate will be required to report to the office daily.

Education and Experience Required

Completion of the twelfth grade

AND

One year of responsible clerical and staff support experience comparable to the level of a Legal Office Assistant II with the County of Nevada.

AND

Two years of experience in a legal secretarial assignment equivalent to the County's Legal Secretary I.

Retirement

The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and also provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
