Legal Assistant - Civil Defense Litigation Glendale, CA


Quintairos, Prieto, Wood & Boyer, P.A. (QPWB), a multi-office national law firm, is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant to join its Glendale, California office. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a legal support professional with civil defense litigation experience to work closely with trial attorneys in a collaborative, fast-paced legal environment.

About the Role


The Legal Assistant will provide direct support to attorneys defending a range of civil litigation matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of California court procedures, experience with civil trials, and the ability to thrive in a high-volume litigation practice.


Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and format legal documents including pleadings, motions, discovery responses, subpoenas, and correspondence
  • Maintain and monitor trial calendars, discovery deadlines, and court schedules
  • Schedule depositions, hearings, conferences, and appointments
  • Assist in case file organization, including opening, maintaining, and closing case files
  • Identify and escalate issues requiring attorney input or immediate attention
  • Assist attorneys with billing and time entry using legal billing software
  • Track, process, and manage subpoenas and third-party record requests
  • File legal documents electronically with state and federal courts (e-filing and PACER)
  • Perform additional administrative tasks as assigned in support of legal operations

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of legal assistant experience supporting civil litigation attorneys; trial experience highly preferred
  • Familiarity with California state court filing procedures is required; federal filing via PACER is a plus
  • Prior experience in general liability or insurance defense is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; professional and team-oriented attitude
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; additional legal training a plus

Physical Demands


This role is primarily sedentary and will require extended periods of sitting and computer work. The position may also involve standing, walking, reaching, and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.


Work Environment


The role is based in an indoor professional office setting with standard business hours. Employees may experience periodic interruptions and varying noise levels.
