Job Description

The firm is seeking a Legal Assistant to support attorneys at their Austin, Texas office. The candidate will work closely with the litigators to prosecute the cases from client intake through filing and discovery.


The candidate must have excellent communication skills, be organized, willing to learn and collaborate in a team environment. Must be comfortable and adaptable to using various types of technology. The candidate will be working on some of the largest and most complex cases. This role is a great learning opportunity with room for advancement for those that demonstrate the work ethic and ability to thrive in this environment.


Previous experience with handling complex litigation, such as environmental cases, pharmaceutical/medical device cases, sexual abuse/human trafficking cases, and/or catastrophic injury cases is an added plus.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The candidate must possess the ability to do the following:

  • Handle client communications in a professional, empathetic and efficient manner;
  • Can quickly absorb and document large volumes of client personal and medical information;
  • Ability to learn as you go to navigate case management and document database technology;
  • Edit documents, such as briefs, pleadings, etc.;
  • Manage a large volume of documents and information related to complex cases;
  • Exhibit critical thinking and problem-solving skills in support of the case;
  • Being open to working overtime hours on an as needed basis as a full time, hourly employee;

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's Degree, or
  • Successful completion of the Certified Paralegal (CP) certifying examination of NALA, Inc., or
  • Graduation from an ABA-approved program of study for paralegals, or
  • If the program of study is institutionally accredited, but not ABA-approved, graduation must require not less than the equivalent of 60 semester hours of classroom study, or
  • Minimum of 6 months - 5 years of Legal Assistance/Junior Paralegal experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Proficiency with Bloomberg, Westlaw, LexisNexis File & Serve, Pacer, and electronic filing procedures (both federal and state).
