Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and professional Legal Assistant to join our legal team in a dynamic, in-person office environment. The Legal Assistant will provide critical administrative and clerical support to attorneys and paralegals, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional client service. This role demands excellent communication, strong technical skills, and a team-oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Document Preparation & Editing Prepare, format, and edit legal documents, letters, and pleadings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with court requirements.
- Court Filings File court documents electronically, adhering to jurisdictional guidelines and deadlines.
- Scheduling & Calendar Management Schedule and maintain attorney calendars, including court dates, client meetings, and depositions.
- Client Communication Communicate with clients professionally, responding to inquiries, scheduling appointments, and relaying messages to attorneys.
- Case Management Organize and maintain case files, track deadlines, and assist with e-discovery processes.
- Administrative Support Perform general office tasks, including managing correspondence, arranging travel, and supporting billing processes.
- Research Assistance Conduct basic legal research using tools like LexisNexis to support case preparation.
Qualifications
- Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe, and LexisNexis.
- Strong typing skills with high accuracy and speed.
- Organizational Skills Exceptional ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain organized filing systems.
- Communication Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with clients, colleagues, and court personnel.
- Teamwork Collaborative team player with a proactive and positive attitude and willingness to support colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field
- Certification as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal (eg, NALA or NFPA).
- Familiarity with business litigation and corporate law.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a law firm
- Experience with e-discovery processes and tools
