SCHEDULE: Full Time, Hybrid
TRAVEL REQUIRED: 0% - 10%

COMPENSATION: $111,561.00 to $196,028.00 base salary plus potential for variable compensation. Base pay is determined by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Farm Credit Mid-America/Rural 1st may compensate outside of the salary range for bona fide reasons not related to membership in a protected class.

About Our Opportunity

The Lead Software Developer helps lead a cross-functional software development team that designs, develops, tests, and maintains applications to support the association's operational and strategic goals.

The Lead Software Developer helps the team maintain high coding standards and helps them grow through mentoring, coaching, and exploring new technologies. The Lead also champions quality through unit testing, automation testing, and actively helping to solve productions issues. This role also partners with Solutions Architects to chart the technical runway for the team.

This role focuses on building and enhancing client-server, web-based, and PC-based applications using Microsoft .NET technologies and modern web front-end frameworks.

How You Will Spend Your Time
  • Leverages expertise to design, develop, and upgrade .Net-based systems. Champions new services, technologies, or enhancements to make our products even better for our customers.
  • Scopes and decompose epics and features into technical user stories for developers to act on. Communicates with team and the leader about project progress and identifies potential roadblocks and/or barriers.
  • Leads team projects with a hands-on approach and ensures timely completion of work within established deadlines.
  • Assists in coaching and mentoring programming expertise within the software development teams on best practices.
  • Excels in both oral and written communication, enhancing the flow of information across the team and clearly articulating alignment with team objectives to ensure everyone is on the same page.
  • Stays up to date on industry trends and technologies to support future development needs.
  • Promotes and actively engages in agile development practices like Unit Testing, Test Automation, Continuous Integration and Deployment, Rolling and Zero Downtime Deployment, Paired Programming, Scrum, and Kanban to enhance quality and time to market.
  • Actively participates in Pull Request reviews to ensure team alignment with coding standards and best practices, as well as compliance with security policies.

Minimum Education & Experience

HS diploma or GED is required. Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, or related field is preferred. Plus, seven years experience; requires advanced technical proficiency in scalable system design, design patterns, DevOps tools and techniques, and large-scale enterprise applications. This role includes formal mentorship of other developers, project estimation, scoping, and planning, having established subject matter expertise, leadership in technical discussions, contributions to long-term technology strategy, and leading larger scale efforts within and across teams. Candidates should be comfortable coaching others and organizing teams to effectively deliver software.

Standing or walking is frequently required, while occasional demands include reaching with hands and arms, and lifting or moving up to ten pounds. Vision requirements encompass close and distance vision. The work environment typically has a moderate noise level. This role may entail a blend of mental and physical capabilities, requiring strong mental acuity, problem-solving skills, and occasional physical tasks such as standing, lifting, or extended computer usage. Some roles may require physical or mental requirements related to driving, such as a valid driver's license, and the ability to drive a long-distance.
