Working within the Integrated Sensors & Protection Line of Business, you will support the Design Authorities to assure safety of products. The role offers flexible home working, with the expectation of travel to our UK offices and occasional international trips.

About the Role
As Lead Safety Engineer, you will provide assurance that products comply with Safety, Environmental and Legislative requirements, primarily within the land, naval and airborne domains. Working with other safety specialists, you will play an active role in maintaining and enhancing the Product Safety and Environmental Impact Management System, which is integral to Design Integrity.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Providing advice on product safety and environmental matters to project and engineering managers delivering the programmes and ensuring the safety and environmental considerations are correctly considered and implemented.
- Engaging with third parties to review and gather supporting Design Safety and Environmental Evidence Reports.
- Developing safety and environmental arguments, both functional and physical, using appropriate safety analysis methods, and producing/updating Safety and Environmental management documentation.
- Ensuring applicable legislation, regulations and standards are adhered to for the product in development.
- Task managing other safety and environmental practitioners in the team.
- Leading safety and environmental audits.
This is a hybrid role, with expectations to work out of our site in Basildon, Southampton, Bristol, Luton, Edinburgh, or Newcastle at least 1 day per week.
About You
You will have proven experience as a Safety Engineer, ideally within the marine environment, though experience in other industries is also acceptable.
Essential Experience/Qualifications:
- Experience analyzing complex systems from a safety perspective, considering system functions.
- Broad knowledge and experience of Safety and Environmental Case development for complex systems within Electronics or Avionics disciplines.
- Good communication skills and ability to interact and manage stakeholders.
- Experience working with Def Stan 00-051, 00-055, 00-056, IEC 61508 (or similar).
- Eligibility for full SC security clearance and access to caveated information such as UK eyes only.
Desirable Experience/Qualifications:
- Experience with tools like DOORS, Adelard ASCE, and Isograph FaultTree+.
- SSMO or SEMT qualified.
- Degree in Safety Management.
