The Role
This position is within our Saab Seaeye Underwater Robotics Business Unit.
We seek a motivated engineer to thrive in our dynamic, innovative environment. The ideal candidate will be adept at researching and developing cutting-edge solutions for challenging problems, with a keen eye for detail and design integrity.
The role requires a good understanding of powertrain architectures, power distribution systems, and experience in designing and testing various power supply topologies. Familiarity with wide-bandgap semiconductors like Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) is desirable but not essential.
All engineers at Saab are expected to manage projects, demonstrating coordination skills and strong communication abilities to collaborate across departments.
- Create new electronics designs from first principles through development to production.
- Design power supplies including AD-DC, DC-DC, and inversion systems.
- Experience with topologies such as Phase-Shift Full-Bridge, Resonant LLC, Flyback, Buck/Boost, and 3-Phase Inverters (up to 100kW).
- Knowledge of power switching devices like MOSFETs and IGBTs, with wide-bandgap devices preferred.
- Design and optimize gate-drive circuitry.
- Design high-frequency transformers and magnetics.
- Understand thermal management for through-hole and surface-mount devices.
- Use modeling and simulation tools for design and prototyping.
- Possess knowledge of digital and analog design concepts.
- Design for LVD/EMC compliance.
- Develop requirements specifications and test procedures.
- Engage in system-level integration and testing.
- Experience with filter design and implementation.
- High voltage experience up to 5kV.
- Thermal modeling experience.
- Knowledge of motor design and control (BLDC, PMSM, Induction).
- Experience with embedded systems, FPGA, CPLD.
- Familiarity with serial communication protocols: Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN, CAN-FD.
