As a subject-matter expert (SME), you will implement best practices, optimize performance, enhance security, and provide crucial leadership to the engineering team. We are seeking an individual with robust experience in infrastructure automation, cloud technologies, and platform architecture to create systems that are resilient, scalable, and easy to maintain. Work is based onsite in the DC area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with architects and stakeholders to craft platform strategies that align with business objectives and technical needs.
  • Evaluate and recommend innovative platform technologies and tools to enhance performance and reduce costs.
  • Design cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and ensure smooth integration with internal systems.
  • Drive automation efforts for infrastructure provisioning and management utilizing tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
  • Establish and maintain CI/CD pipelines that automate deployments and minimize manual management of platforms.
  • Emphasize infrastructure as code (IaC) practices for consistent and repeatable deployments.
  • Mentor and lead a team of platform engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering skill development.
  • Manage team tasks, ensuring project timelines are met and resources are utilized effectively.
  • Oversee cloud infrastructure management, focusing on efficient provisioning, monitoring, and scaling of resources.
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to ensure integrated deployment pipelines and effective use of container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Develop comprehensive documentation for platform architecture, setups, and procedures.
  • Cooperate with other engineering divisions (DevOps, software, network, security) to align platform solutions with broader application and infrastructure demands.
  • Communicate technical strategies and solutions to non-technical stakeholders, maintaining alignment on platform goals.
  • Provide ongoing technical leadership to support project success, ensuring platforms meet both business and technical needs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience) with 12+ years in a relevant field. Additional experience may substitute for education.
  • 7+ years in platform engineering or infrastructure management, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Expertise in cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and experience with multi-cloud infrastructures.
  • Proficient in containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration.
  • Strong skills in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Ansible.
  • Extensive experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of networking, storage, and compute resources in cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Familiar with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Splunk).
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows server administration and performance enhancements.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and cultivate a collaborative work environment.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex platform issues effectively.
  • Awareness of security best practices in cloud platforms and infrastructure management.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
  • Proficient in managing multiple projects with a focus on prioritization and timely delivery.
Desirable Skills:
  • Certifications in relevant cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect).
  • Experience with microservices architecture and platforms optimized for microservices applications.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and experience in Agile frameworks.
