The Lead Platform Engineer is responsible for building and enhancing the ConnellsX Platform. Your success and that of the platform are closely coupled to the success of your customer-the engineering teams running their services on it. Your customer focus and data-informed approach drive your day-to-day and strategic decision-making.

You will be a hands-on, customer-focused engineering servant-leader. Comfort across orchestration, automation, pipelines, cloud services, observability, and security domains is essential, even if you are not an expert in all areas. A non-negotiable requirement is experience and familiarity with Microsoft Azure.

You will contribute to operating the platform in line with our "you build it, you run it" approach, working with multi-disciplinary teams.

You will code daily and be expected to scale through others. You will bring platform engineering expertise to Connells, upskilling staff and hiring to fill gaps. The platform aims to scale via automation, so the team is lean, consisting of a handful of matrix-managed engineers with diverse skills.

Working with colleagues in site reliability, onboarding, architecture, and delivery, and under the guidance of the overall Platform Lead, you will be a key engineering leader helping make this critical platform hosting all of Connells' digital journeys a success.

We are looking for someone who has:
  1. Advanced knowledge of Terraform syntax, modules, state management, workspaces, and backend configuration
  2. Deep understanding of Azure Terraform provider capabilities and limitations
  3. Experience integrating Terraform into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, etc.)
  4. Understanding of ARM templates and resource management
  5. Containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  6. Knowledge of core Azure services (Virtual Networks, VMs, Storage, App Services, etc.)
  7. Experience with Azure AD, RBAC, Key Vault, and security best practices
  8. Proficiency with Git workflows (branching, merging, pull requests)
  9. Experience using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Bash for automation tasks
  10. Previous experience with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar tools
  11. Understanding of cloud networking concepts (VNets, subnets, NSGs, etc.)
  12. Knowledge of security best practices for cloud environments
  13. Experience optimizing cloud spend and resource efficiency

Connells Group UK is an equal opportunities employer and encourages applications from qualified candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, transgender status, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.

Don't meet every single requirement? Studies show women and people of colour are less likely to apply unless they meet all qualifications. At Connells Group, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't align perfectly with every aspect, we encourage you to apply anyway-you might be the right candidate for this or other opportunities.
