As a Lead Platform Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, deploying, and managing VPN solutions that enhance and evolve our network security infrastructure. You will spearhead the integration of new technologies into our existing production environment, collect requirements, create design specifications, and implement effective solutions.
This position also involves mentoring the operations team, developing training programs, and offering on-call support during incidents. You'll work closely with talented individuals at Capital One to drive results that contribute to the company's success while continuously learning and advancing our enterprise infrastructure.
Our Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering (CORE) Technology division focuses on strengthening Capital One's foundational cloud infrastructure, covering aspects like observability, connectivity, resilience, and availability. The VPN Engineering team is dedicated to providing secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) connectivity for associates, facilitating remote access to Capital One's network over various environments.
Key Responsibilities: - Design, implement, and maintain high-quality VPN infrastructure solutions.
- Support enterprise network security infrastructure across regional hubs and cloud environments.
- Enforce cybersecurity standards, automate security services, and deploy security solutions.
- Collaborate across teams and lines of business in multiple time zones.
- Consult with technology support groups for network security design efforts.
- Identify gaps in current designs and propose solutions based on business and technical needs.
- Lead the development of security solutions, optimizations, and technology refresh efforts.
- Contribute to design standards, maintain network security topology diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Engage in technology integration efforts with other engineering and support teams.
- Support audits and provide consulting for engagements.
- Ensure compliance with internal and enterprise security configuration standards.
- Communicate technical information effectively with various stakeholders.
- Adapt and problem-solve in a complex, dynamic environment.
- Contribute to and maintain living engineering documentation.
- Work flexible hours to accommodate changing environments.
- Perform physical tasks such as moving and installing equipment weighing up to 50lbs.
Basic Qualifications: - High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification.
- 3+ years of experience implementing and troubleshooting network security platforms and VPN technologies (Cisco, F5, Palo Alto).
- 2+ years of experience using network security management tools and packet analysis for incident resolution.
- 2+ years of experience with IPSec tunnels and encryption, including VRF, TCP/IP, OSI model, IPv6, and cloud-based network security architecture.
Preferred Qualifications: - 4+ years of experience as a Palo Alto and F5 VPN administrator.
- 2+ years of experience with Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow, and Observe88.
- 2+ years of scripting and automation experience (BASH, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform) along with AWS/GCP tools and services.
- 2+ years of experience in deploying enterprise computing platforms and systems across Desktop (macOS, Windows) and Mobile (iOS, Android) environments.
This position is based in our offices located in McLean, VA; Plano, TX; and Richmond, VA. The salary range for this role varies by location:
- McLean, VA: $127,500 - $145,500
- Plano, TX: $115,900 - $132,200
- Richmond, VA: $115,900 - $132,200
