Learn About a Day in the Life of a PCT: Responsibilities- The Lead Patient Care Technician will provide direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse to all assigned patients and maintain a safe patient area.
- Assist in the triaging of patients, including admission, transfer, and discharge
- Report all necessary information and/or unusual occurrences of an urgent nature as they develop
- Take vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, pulse oximetry, and collect specimens
- Respond to emergency situations
- Assist with patient transport and transfer
- Collect, report, and document clinical data
- Adhere to safety and risk management standards
- Assist with clerical and communication tasks to support patient care
- Perform any and all other duties assigned
- Balance and prepare the schedule for the manager review and publishing
- Work with staff for all open shifts and staffing needs.
- Lead the monthly Patient Care Technician staff meeting, complete with meeting minutes and follow-up
- Preceptorship of all new Patient Care Technician candidates, including completion of the orientation handbook
- Monitors staff BLS certifications and ensures all certifications are up to date
- AIDET validation and revalidation on new and existing staff
- Perform any and all duties as assigned
Qualifications Job Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED
- At least 2 years of experience as a Patient Care Technician in an Emergency Department Setting
- Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Job Requirements
- Licensure: EMT, EMT-P certification, or equivalent training or hospital experience required
- Certified Nursing Assistant and/or nursing student enrolled in a Nursing program who has successfully completed theoretical and clinical practical in fundamentals of nursing in nursing school
