Summary This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services, Branch of Women's Health Unit at the Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC), Gallup, NM. This position evaluates nursing needs; provides or directs the provisions of comprehensive nursing care, delegates appropriate duties to personnel, teaches and supervises their work as needed; and participates in the evaluation of the quaility of patient care. Assesses the patient and develops a plan of care for patients presented to the Women's Health Unit. Triages by interviewing the patient and/or family members, reviewing the patient's health record, determining and evaluating the kind of physical and health care needed. Interprets data obtained from observation, examination, monitoring, and laboratory values. Distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings and provides appropriate care measures. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician to include, but not limited to, medication administration, intravenous fluids, treatments, and maintains those measures taken which are ongoing in nature. As Charge Nurse, provides guidance to three or more employees, responsible for maintaining patient flow and efficiency in order to ensure patient safety, confidentiality, and expedition of patient care services. Assigns, directs, and delegates staff according to their capabilities to meet patient needs as well as the priorities of the department. Serves as team leader in absence of SCN delegated Acting SCN, formulates daily work schedules and assignments, including shift operations as necessary; plans work assignments based on priorities, consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Serves as a resource person; provides guidance and leadership to staff. Provides advice, assists, counsels, and provides instruction to nursing personnel as required. Handles simple, informal shift-related disciplinary problems through corrective counseling and informs SCN of action. Participate in the hospital preceptor ship and mentorship program, as assigned. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks. Examples include: Assess, plan, implement, direct and evaluate the care of patients in a hospital facility setting; prepare work performance plans, coordinates patient care and support activities to ensure smooth hospital operation for admissions, discharges, and transfers; collaborates with leadership to assure compliance with Joint Commission, Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), etc. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
