Description Leidos is seeking a highly skilled
Lead Modeling and Simulation Engineer with a robust healthcare background to enhance the Human Systems Integration division of VHA's Office of Health Informatics. This role is pivotal in collaborating with cross-functional teams to provide top-notch Human Factors Engineering and Human Systems Engineering Services, aimed at optimizing overall system performance. As a Lead Engineer, you will spearhead studies focused on usability, macro-ergonomics, human factors, and instructional systems design, among others. Your expertise will directly contribute to making critical interactive systems more useful and user-friendly, enabling informed and risk-aware decision-making that aligns with our project's objectives.
The Lead Engineer will commit at least 60% of their time as a full-time employee equivalent (FTEE), with availability for team collaboration sessions Monday through Friday, between 7 AM ET and 6 PM ET.
Primary Responsibilities: - Collaborate with team members to deliver simulations that provide predictive insights into operational performance issues, facilitating the assessment of workload, configuration alternatives, and identifying risk-laden scenarios.
- Execute comprehensive simulation studies isolating current performance from potential outcomes, identifying key variables to drive solutions that inform both operational and strategic planning.
Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Modeling and Simulation (M&S).
- A strong combination of domain knowledge, technical skills, and problem-solving abilities that underpin effective modeling and simulation practices.
- Experience in collaborating with clients to clarify model requirements and simulation objectives, ensuring alignment with customer needs.
- Extensive experience in designing and developing complex multi-system simulations.
- Proficiency in software modeling, device characterization, and automation of measurement processes.
- Capacity to create abstract models reflecting real-world systems, employing techniques such as discrete event, continuous, and agent-based simulations.
- Advanced skills in programming languages and simulation software, with a focus on data handling and analysis-specifically Python scripting and Object-Oriented Programming.
- Expertise in validating and verifying models, enhancing reliability through sensitivity analysis.
- Exceptional communication skills for effective interaction with stakeholders regarding technical and scheduling aspects, with a strong emphasis on documentation to share findings and insights.
- A demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and keeping abreast of advancements in modeling techniques and tools.
- Ability to report and document testing outcomes clearly for end-users.
- Experience in supporting various studies is essential.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering.
- Ideally, 5 years in a healthcare-focused role.
- Familiarity with electronic healthcare record systems.
- Knowledge of the VHA domain.
- Experience using Jira or Azure DevOps, alongside Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio.
- Familiarity with Agile development practices.
- Proficiency with analysis software like CART3D, KESTREL, US3D, FUN3D, CFD , ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and the Sierra Tool suite.
- CAD experience using Solidworks or similar tools.
- Experience with Artificial Neural Networks (including TensorFlow and MATLAB tools).
