Position Summary
The Lead Estimator will be responsible for overseeing all preconstruction estimating activities, managing the preparation of accurate and competitive bids, and working closely with project managers, executives, and subcontractors. This role leads the bidding process from conceptual budgeting through final proposal submission, ensuring comprehensive, well-supported estimates that drive our business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of detailed, accurate cost estimates for a wide range of construction projects.
- Review and analyze drawings, specifications, and project documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.
- Develop scopes of work, identify potential project risks, and propose mitigation strategies.
- Manage relationships with subcontractors and suppliers, including solicitation and bid evaluation.
- Perform take-offs, quantity surveys, and pricing using both estimating software and traditional methods.
- Collaborate with the operations team to ensure a smooth project transition from estimating to construction.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client discussions to fully understand project requirements.
- Maintain and update cost history data, market pricing information, and benchmarking tools to continuously improve estimating accuracy.
- Lead internal bid reviews and present estimating strategies and assumptions to company leadership.
- Support business development efforts by preparing budgets, proposals, and participating in client networking.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in construction estimating
- Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, materials, and building codes.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred (or equivalent relevant experience).
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills with subcontractors and vendors.
