Akkodis is seeking a full time, direct hire Lead Embedded Software Engineer with our dedicated team and avionics partnership in the Grand Rapids, MI area for a hybrid/remote role.

This is a critical role in the aerospace sector, focusing on the full lifecycle of embedded software (firmware), platforms, and systems. This role demands deep technical expertise in real-time embedded systems and hands-on collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-reliability solutions for controlling physical aerospace components.
Qualified candidates will possess greater than 3 years of professional experience in programming embedded software for the avionics/aerospace industry to include C or Ada programming along with any level of project management or lead experience in UVM, Cost analysis, MS Projects or other PM software . Additionally, US citizenship is a necessity for required access to government documentation.
Pay Range: Up to $160,000/yr (salary commensurate based on experience and education levels).
Lead Embedded Software Engineer job responsibilities include:
Embedded Software Development:
- Design, develop, and rigorously test embedded software for real-time systems.
- Architect software that interacts closely with hardware, including motors, alternators, engines, valves, and fans.
- Write low-level device drivers for use by application development teams.
Technical Leadership:
- Lead four groups of engineers focused on device driver development.
- Collaborate with sourcing teams and manage contracts with OS providers supporting development.
Program & Project Management:
- Estimate development efforts and costs for features and device drivers.
- Break down development work into tasks and manage the end-to-end execution.
- Ensure estimates and resource planning align with overall budget constraints.
- Support oversight of project budget and financial tracking.
Development Process:
- Operate within agile-like team structures but primarily follow a waterfall development model.
- Drive the program toward final delivery ("end game") while maintaining schedule and quality targets.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work with proposal leads to develop and refine project budgets and financial plans.
- Partner with team members for financial tracking, forecasting, and task management using tools like Rally.
Tools & Processes:
- Development Tools: Embedded development environments, low-level programming, device driver frameworks.
- Project Management: Rally for task and financial tracking.
- Financial Management: Involved in budgeting, forecasting, and estimating development costs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science is preferred or high school diploma along with greater than 6 years of professional experience.
- Greater than 3 years of professional experience in programming embedded software with a background in software lifecycle, verification, and validation, preferably within the aerospace industry.
- Any level of project management or lead experience in UVM, Cost analysis, MS Projects or other PM software .
- Professional experience with C programming language. ADA programming is helpful, though not a required prerequisite.
- US Citizenship as this role requires access to sensitive technical documentation associated with the US Government.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Comprehensive experience in full life cycle software development.
- Proven project management skills including managing budgets, cost estimates, and project tracking.
