As the Lead Decision Scientist, you will lead strategic data analysis to optimize Best Buy's store portfolio, making recommendations on site selection, store renewals, and market growth strategies. Your expertise in retail location strategy, market assessments, and data modeling will influence key decisions on where and how Best Buy operates across regions. The day-to-day will involve collaborating with leaders in Real Estate, Operations, and Finance, developing advanced forecasting tools, and presenting actionable insights to executive leadership. This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process. For this role, you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield, Minnesota.

What you'll do
  • Develop multi-variate scenario tools to optimize store portfolio decisions, including growth opportunities and new store openings
  • Create market assessments based on economic, competitive, consumer, and industry trends to inform portfolio strategies
  • Provide performance diagnostics for store investments (openings, relocations, remodels) and act as a SME liaison with the Test & Measure team
  • Build and democratize data solutions, dashboards, and tools to drive efficiencies in field operations and market share growth
  • Provide strategy and investment recommendations for store renewals, relocations, remodels, and closures with analytics-based rationale
  • Collaborate with leaders across Data & Analytics, Real Estate, Finance, and other teams to deliver optimal investment outcomes

Basic qualifications
  • 5 years of experience with advanced SQL for data analysis (Google Cloud Platform preferred)
  • 3 years of experience creating data visualizations for storytelling (eg, Tableau, PowerBI, Looker)
  • 5 years of experience in retail or real estate analytics or strategy
  • 2 years of experience managing analytics projects and delivering insights to non-technical audiences

Preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or related field (eg, mathematics, statistics, economics, geography)
  • 2 years of experience providing insights and recommendations to executive leadership
  • 1 year of experience using GIS or spatial analysis tools for geographic analysis
  • 1 year of experience or familiarity with Alteryx
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
