Job Title: Lead Blood Bank Medical Technologist

Location: Owosso, MI

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Lead Blood Bank Medical Technologist to oversee our blood bank operations. The successful candidate will ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our transfusion services, playing a critical role in patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and Leadership:

    • Manage daily operations of the blood bank laboratory.

    • Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory staff.

    • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures and regulatory standards.

    • Assist in implementing new methods and procedures.

    • Monitor and implement quality control and standards programs.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Perform complex blood tests, including blood typing, antibody identification, and compatibility testing.

    • Operate and maintain advanced laboratory equipment.

    • Ensure the quality control of blood components.

    • Investigate and resolve technical problems.

  • Quality Assurance and Compliance:

    • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.

    • Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols.

    • Monitor and submit data regarding test correlation studies, quality control, and quality improvement.

    • Report major problems and findings to the supervisor with recommendations.

  • Collaboration:

    • Coordinate with medical staff to ensure safe blood transfusions.

    • Participate in blood donation drives and collection activities.

    • Support physicians and nurses in blood transfusion therapy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by a recognized certifying agency (e.g., ASCP).

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical laboratory experience, preferably in blood banking or transfusion services.

  • Strong knowledge of immunohematology principles and techniques.

  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.

  • Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment and computer systems.

  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and quality control practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a supervisory or lead role within a laboratory setting.

  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems.

  • Additional certifications related to blood banking or transfusion medicine.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.

  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to prepare specimens and solutions.

  • Normal color vision to accurately interpret test results.
