Lead Accounts Payable Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Lead Accounts Payable Specialist to join our growing construction company in Portland, Oregon. This leadership role is pivotal in overseeing the full accounts payable cycle, managing a team, and ensuring timely and accurate processing of all vendor invoices and payments. The ideal candidate will possess strong supervisory skills, a deep understanding of construction accounting practices, and proficiency in relevant accounting software.

• Team Leadership & Development:

  • Supervise, train, and mentor the accounts payable team to ensure efficient and accurate processing of invoices and payments.

  • Foster a collaborative environment, encouraging continuous improvement and adherence to best practices.

• Invoice & Payment Processing:

  • Oversee the full-cycle accounts payable process, including receipt, verification, and payment of vendor invoices.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and contractual terms, including lien release procedures and general ledger coding.

• Vendor Relations:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for vendor inquiries, resolving discrepancies and maintaining positive relationships.

  • Negotiate payment terms and manage vendor accounts to optimize cash flow

• Reconciliation & Reporting:

  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Prepare and analyze accounts payable reports to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.

• Compliance & Internal Controls:

  • Implement and maintain internal controls to prevent errors and fraud in the accounts payable process.

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and audit requirements.

• System Management & Process Improvement:

  • Utilize accounting software (e.g., CMiC, NetSuite) to manage accounts payable functions.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency.
    
    

• Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience may be considered.

• Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of accounts payable experience, with at least 2 years in a lead role within the construction industry.

  • Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., CMiC, Sage, Newstar) is highly desirable.

• Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

• Certifications:

  • AP certification or equivalent is a plus.
