Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role as a Law Firm Controller located in Downey, CA, with the option for some remote work. The Law Firm Controller will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, budgeting, reporting, and ensuring compliance with legal regulations. Daily tasks may include financial analysis, monitoring cash flow, preparing financial statements, and managing accounting processes.


Qualifications

  • Financial Operations, Budgeting, and Reporting skills
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting, with law firm or legal industry experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of law firm trust accounting, tax laws, and financial compliance.
  • Financial Analysis and Cash Flow Management skills
  • Experience in preparing Financial Statements and managing Accounting Processes
  • Experience with QuickBooks, legal accounting software, and financial reporting tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • CPA designation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the firm's financial health, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, profit and loss reports, and balance sheets.
  • Monitor revenue, case costs, settlements, and operating expenses to ensure profitability.
  • Implement financial controls and best practices to enhance efficiency and transparency.
  • Ensure proper handling of client trust accounts (IOLTA) and compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Reconcile trust accounts and operating accounts on a regular basis.
  • Work closely with attorneys and case managers to ensure accurate settlement distributions and client disbursements.
  • Maintain compliance with state bar regulations and accounting standards.
  • Oversee tax planning, preparation, and filings for the firm, ensuring compliance with IRS and state regulations.
  • Work with external auditors and tax consultants as needed.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and ensure proper deductions and reporting.
  • Supervise payroll processing, employee benefits accounting, and tax withholdings.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
  • Implement cost-control measures to optimize financial performance.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to firm leadership for strategic decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost reduction, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in evaluating investment opportunities, firm expansions, and resource allocation.
