Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Laboratory Shipping & Receiving Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for supporting key operations related to the preparation, shipping, receiving, and documentation of laboratory specimen/sample collection kits and containers. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with laboratory protocols and regulations while maintaining excellent customer service and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and ship specimen/sample collection kits and containers.
- Receive supplies, packages, and infectious/hazardous samples for testing.
- Verify condition and paperwork of incoming materials and accurately log them into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Maintain meticulous documentation of all receiving and shipping activities.
- Communicate with submitters and program staff to provide guidance on sample submissions and resolve shipment issues.
- Assist with send-outs and ensure proper procedures are followed per state and federal regulations.
- Notify leadership of any concerns, out-of-specification readings, or irregularities.
- Provide exceptional customer service while supporting laboratory staff, couriers, and external clients.
Required Skills:
- Hands-on experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIMS).
- Knowledge of shipping, handling, and labeling procedures for laboratory kits and biological specimens.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in a laboratory receiving environment.
- Familiarity with handling potentially infectious materials.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA):
Knowledge of:
- Laboratory terminology, processes, and safety procedures.
- Quality control and quality assurance standards.
- Proper handling and decontamination of biological and chemical waste.
Skills in:
- Computer operation, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar), and LIMS systems.
- Data entry, organizational tasks, and written communication.
- Operation of laboratory and office equipment.
Ability to:
- Work independently and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with staff, couriers, and management.
- Understand and apply policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Solve problems related to specimen logistics and documentation.
- Promote and support a culturally inclusive and diverse work environment.
