Position Overview:
The Novelis Novi Customer Solution Center team is seeking a Lab Technician. The person in this role will report to the Enabling Technologies Lead and receive daily assignments from Lab Responsible leads. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of sheet aluminum evaluations in the areas of joining, forming, roll forming and material characterization. This position will complete evaluations and trials in support of key strategic R&D projects and business critical support to Novelis's automotive customers.
Responsibilities:
- Become proficient in select processes and equipment in the areas of joining, forming, roll forming and metallurgical evaluations to support critical trials where needed
- Conduct diverse metallurgical evaluations using equipment of the metallurgical lab and provide trial support for forming, joining and roll forming
- Complete testing, identify where additional data/analysis is needed and clearly communicate technical information and results.
- Use equipment in a safe operating manner and in compliance with Novelis safety standards
- Identify key lab safety points, complete risk assessments as needed, and correct hazards or unsafe practices in the lab area
- Become knowledgeable in select equipment to document, review and provided training to other users
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS diploma with 3-5 years of experience or associates degree/technical certification with 0-3 years of experience
- Hands-on experience in a laboratory or industrial setting
- Basic understanding of sheet material evaluations and/or manufacturing
- Willingness to develop and learn new skills with mechanical proficiency and ability to work hands-on
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to collaborate with diverse workgroups and cultures
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with aluminum sheet metal evaluations and manufacturing techniques
- Experience operating mobile and industrial equipment
- Background with ISO17025 (or equivalent) practices
