In the Materials R&D group, the Technician I will be responsible for conducting bench level testing /experiments; writing technical reports; supporting test request work flow; operation of equipment in the materials characterization and testing labs while ensuring compliance with BD quality policies. The Technician I understands procedures and practices through appropriate communication, training and education of sound quality assurance principles; ensure compliance with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.
Project Responsibilities:
• Assists in the execution of materials testing that support sustaining engineering, new product development or technology feasibility testing with supervision.
• Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory material test results.
• Reports results of experiments to direct manager and materials engineers.
• When necessary prepares technical reports according to an established template.
• Maintains good laboratory practices (GLP).
• Works with the team to organize lab functions; including calibration.
• Has basic understanding of materials characterization capabilities.
• Completes other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• At minimum, an Associate's Degree in a Technical or Science Field.
• 1-5 years relevant experience in a technical discipline, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
• Experience with material characterization / testing instruments and equipment
• Training in laboratory safety and procedures.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Knowledge of the operation of mechanical measurement equipment (e.g. Instron) and/or materials characterization capabilities (ie. FTIR, DSC, TGA) is desirable.
• Ability to work in a team and independently
• Ability to integrate written and verbal instructions, work under supervision.
• Good communication skills, both written and oral.
• Knowledge of computer programs, especially excel.
• Aware of External Regulations (ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM).
• Task oriented.
