JOB TITLE: Lab Technician

DEPARTMENT: Technical Services

REPORTS TO: Laboratory Manager

SUMMARY: Provides technical skills in performing and analyzing various samples and procedures used in the testing support for our sales and manufacturing efforts in the Chemicals and Catalyst divisions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner
  • Follow all tenets of the Responsible Care Management System and the Quality, Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security Policy for Dorf Ketal
  • Perform requested tests on samples provided by sales, manufacturing, and packaging facilities
  • Report test results on a timely basis
  • Conduct both application testing and analytical testing including but not limited to:
    • Perform rheology testing, electrostatic desalter simulations, bottle testing, HLPS in addition FTIR, various methods of viscometry, ion chromatography, UV-VIS spectroscopy, disitometry, autotitrimetry - electrometric, precipitation, etc., muffler furnace ashing, PMCC flash point testing, etc.
  • Recommends and implements new and revised testing procedures and SOPs to provide accurate and informative test results
  • Perform and document calibration and maintenance on laboratory equipment as required by testing and maintenance schedule
  • Write and update calibration and maintenance procedures for laboratory instruments
  • Package and ship samples and other items as requested
  • Maintain inventory of samples at Sample Express
  • Maintain inventory of retain samples stored at the Dorf Ketal laboratory
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets for all non-DK samples on DK India SharePoint
  • Maintain inventory of all necessary supplies and reagents for the laboratory
  • Support and assist in implementing and maintaining certified management systems ascribed to DK such as ISO 9001. Identify training needs of personnel. Promote awareness of risks and opportunities associated with their work. Maintain an understanding of the Quality policy and how they personally contribute to meeting DK objectives and goals
  • Support and assist in implementing and maintaining the RCMS program. Identify training needs of personnel. Promote awareness of the RCMS guiding principles and Dorf Ketal's HSSE policy, objectives and goals in addition to how they can contribute to them.
  • Other projects as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related science
    • Four years of experience in a related position or industry may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience/Skills:
    • Four years of experience in a related position or industry may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
  • Certifications:
    • DOT and IATA Hazmat Shipping Certification
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
